Clover Time Bosses: Boss List, Access Routes, and Verified Drops
Pick your next Clover Time boss: documented boss list, the Chain Bandit's full route and drops, Earth Bandit Boss outfit drops, and the rewards bosses feed.
For a progression reward you can actually plan around, the Chain Bandit is Clover Time's best-documented boss target. The "Defeat the Chain Bandit" quest opens around level 20 on the road to the Grimoire Tower, the boss appears on a visible spawn countdown, and every recorded kill dropped at least a normal chest while advancing the quest chain. He's also the game's first boss — the chain-wielding Salik, the same fight Asta and Yuno walk into right after acquiring their first grimoire, as one beginner's guide frames it.
The rest of the documented roster is known in other ways: King of the Wolves and Magna come from their quest fights, Earth Bandit Boss is confirmed only through its outfit drops, and a giant unnamed bonus boss can appear at treasure-map chests. Current sources don't give map locations for the whole roster or drop tables for every boss, so this reference marks those gaps rather than filling them with guesses.
Clover Time boss quick reference
Start from the reward you need, then follow the access route in the middle column.
| Boss | Access route | Documented rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Chain Bandit | "Defeat the Chain Bandit" quest around level 20, picked up about 1,200 m along the road to the Grimoire Tower; the boss appears after a visible spawn countdown | At least a normal chest per recorded kill, plus listed drops (iron scythe, iron shackles, Salic cloak, Salic outfit, shine fragments, Chain Hand); each kill advances the quest chain |
| King of the Wolves | Target of the Macawolf quest; the recorded run fought it at the quest's destination | None documented |
| Magna | Final quest in the shown progression; the recorded fight was entered with awakening active at level 100 | None documented |
| Earth Bandit Boss | No location or access condition documented | Earth Mage Boss Outfit; Earth Mage Outfit (shared with Earth Bandit) |
| Treasure-map bonus boss (unnamed) | Small chance to appear once the monsters guarding a treasure-map chest are defeated; a blacksmith-crafted item can force it to appear | Defeating it increases the chest's rarity |
Chain Bandit: the complete route to the game's first boss
- Take the quest. "Defeat the Chain Bandit" is a level-20-ish objective in the main chain; the recorded route picked it up about 1,200 m out on the way to the Grimoire Tower. The tower itself is mapped in the Clover Time grimoire tower location guide.
- Wait out the spawn countdown. The boss is not permanently present — a visible timer gates his appearance. Observed waits were about one minute in one recording, roughly 30 seconds in another attempt, and about two to three minutes after a kill before he reappeared. No fixed timer is documented, so plan around the on-screen countdown rather than a set schedule.
- Break his defense and block his skills. The Chain Bandit fights with a defense you can break, and his skills can be perfect-blocked. His sword swings fast and he hits hard enough to kill an underprepared player — one recorded run died mid-fight and respawned at the nearest spawn point. That nearest-spawn option sends you to the closest spawn point when you die without needing to save, so a wipe doesn't cost you the whole trip back.
- Collect and repeat. Every recorded kill dropped at least a normal chest, and the fight is itself a quest objective, so each kill advances the chain. After one recorded kill he reappeared about two to three minutes later, which makes repeat farming practical.
What the Chain Bandit drops
The pool below combines the in-game drops view shown in two gameplay videos with items players actually received. Exact drop chances aren't documented anywhere in that material.
| Drop | What the record shows |
|---|---|
| Normal chest | Listed in the drops view and dropped after kills in two separate playthroughs |
| Salic cloak | Listed in the drops view; one player obtained and equipped it |
| Iron scythe | Listed in the drops view; one player noted the boss could have dropped it but didn't |
| Iron shackles | Listed in the drops view |
| Salic outfit | Listed in the drops view |
| Shine fragments | Listed in the drops view; one creator guessed they tie into grimoires, but that was stated as speculation |
| Chain Hand | Named by a separate playthrough, alongside a scythe, a chest, the boss's outfit and a fragment |
Chest contents vary run to run: one opened chest contained crystal mana frags, another held stone ore, a stamina potion and raw meat. The crystal mana frags led that player to believe they're used to craft mana crystals — that's the player's stated belief, not a confirmed use.
King of the Wolves and Magna: quest bosses without drop tables
The main quest chain — tracked step by step in the Clover Time quests guide — supplies the next two documented bosses. The Macawolf quest sends you after the King of the Wolves ("Now we got to defeat the king of the wolves," as the recorded run puts it), and that run defeated him at the quest's destination without much trouble. Magna closes out the progression shown in the same recording: the player reached level 100, went into awakening for the fight, and beat him.
Neither fight showed a drop table, so no drops are documented for either boss. What the chain does show is pacing: the Chain Bandit fight sits in it too, and he's a clear step above the regular NPCs around him — strong enough to kill that player once before the retry finished the job. The practical read: quest bosses are the progression path, but only the Chain Bandit currently comes with a verified reward list.
Earth Bandit Boss: confirmed outfit drops, no documented location
The accessories wiki's obtainment column is the only current record of this boss. The Earth Mage Boss Outfit drops from the Earth Bandit Boss, and the Earth Mage Outfit drops from both the regular Earth Bandit and the boss — their stat lines live on the Clover Time accessories page. What no source covers yet is where the boss spawns or what gates the encounter, so you can target it for those outfits, but the route has to stay marked as a gap for now.
The treasure-map bonus boss: an encounter you can trigger on purpose
Clover Time also hides a boss inside its treasure-map loop. Some bosses can drop a treasure map — the stronger the boss, the better the map, ranging from rare to legendary — and using one reveals the coordinates of a guarded chest. Defeat the monsters surrounding that chest and the barrier drops, starting the chest's puzzle. There's a small chance that a huge, powerful boss then appears, and defeating it increases the chest's rarity.
You don't have to rely on that small chance: at the blacksmith you can craft an item that forces the chest's giant boss to appear, plus a separate item that skips the puzzle entirely. If you run Anti Magic, you get the puzzle shortcut for free — attacking the chest skips it without any crafted item.
Race Rerolls and Big Chests: verified boss rewards with no named owner
Two more reward types are verified to come from bosses generally, though no source names which boss drops them:
- Race Rerolls are sold in the in-game shop, redeemed through codes, or obtained as special drops from in-game bosses. Current working codes are maintained on the Clover Time codes page and the reroll basics on the rerolls guide.
- Big Chests are found around the world or earned from bosses, containing higher-tier rewards such as extra grimoire spins, rare currency, and other useful progression items.
The same "no named owner" caveat applies to treasure maps, so treat all three categories as bonuses any boss fight might produce rather than a reason to farm one specific target. Pick your farm target from the per-boss rewards above instead.
Once you've picked a boss, the natural next loop is the chests behind those bonus rewards: the Clover Time chests guide covers where Big Chests spawn and how map-chest puzzles play out — exactly where the giant bonus boss appears.
