Clover Time Chests: Types, Verified Rewards and Milestones

Clover Time has three chest types: Normal, Medium and Big. See what each type has actually given players, the chest achievements they feed, which codes award them, and the known ways to earn more.

Quick answer: Clover Time has three chest types — the Normal Chest, the Medium Chest and the Big Chest. Normal and Medium Chests are the regular pulls you earn from quests, bosses and codes, while the Big Chest is the larger drop you want when you need something stronger before the next boss. You open them from your inventory: equip the chest and use it, and the rewards land directly in your inventory. No verified drop rates exist for chest contents, so this page sticks to what chests have actually contained, the achievements they feed, and every known way to get more.

What each chest type does

The three chests are distinct named items, not loose size labels: all three appear by name in active code reward lists, and the achievement table tracks Big Chests with their own separate counter.

  • Normal Chest — the basic tier. It stacks up with Medium Chests as your regular pulls: the chest you get for finishing a quest or beating an early boss, opened for steady materials rather than jackpot items.
  • Medium Chest — the mid tier and the other regular pull. It is common from quests, the new-player chest chain and codes, and it is where key early items like the Magic Broom have come from.
  • Big Chest — the larger drop. It holds the strongest reward pool and is the chest you save for when you want a bigger push, such as gearing up before the next boss.

One gameplay video calls a bigger chest a "large chest"; nothing verified confirms a fourth chest type, and the wording almost certainly refers to the Big Chest.

What Clover Time chests have actually given

Chests are one of the standing ways to fund your grimoire rolls: mana crystals can come from them, and different chest types can contain money, fragments, spins and other items. You will not always get a Mana Crystal or a valuable fragment, but larger chests draw from better reward pools, so opening every chest you find while exploring is worthwhile. In recorded sessions, the opening window even lists a chest's possible items with the game's own percentage readout, so you can preview what it can hold before the rewards land.

The contents below are examples from creators' opening sessions — a snapshot of what each tier can give, not a complete loot table.

ChestObserved or described contentsTypical source
Normal ChestStone ore, a stamina potion, raw meat, a bandit dagger; a boss-arena normal chest also rolled mana crystals and crystal mana fragmentsQuest rewards and boss drops, including the Chain Bandit's arena
Medium ChestA Magic Broom; crystal manaThe first Tony quest and the new-player chest chain
Big ChestHigher-tier rewards: extra grimoire spins, rare currency and other useful progression itemsFound around the world or earned from bosses

Big Chests

Big Chests are the tier worth planning around, because everything about them is rarer but better:

  • Contents: they are described as holding higher-tier rewards — extra grimoire spins, rare currency and other useful progression items — rather than the ore-and-potion tier of Normal Chests. Guides differ on where they sit in the world (open map versus hidden areas), but agree they come from exploring and from boss drops.
  • Milestones: index discovery milestones include Big Chests, and one creator states that finishing every guide entry and reaching level 50 grants one.
  • Achievement: the Mythic Chest Hunter achievement counts 50 opened Big Chests for +30% Luck and +30% Yuls.
  • Codes: BETARELEASE and CLOVERTIMEONTOP have both awarded Big Chests directly.

Since the Big Chest is designed for the moment you want something stronger before the next boss, open it when you actually need that push rather than the second it arrives.

How to get chests

  • Starter chain: you spawn in with a chest, and it leads into more chests — multiple first-day sessions produced crystal mana and a Magic Broom this way. One creator describes the starter chest as guaranteed to give a Medium Chest and then a mana crystal, but he narrates the same sequence differently elsewhere in his video, so treat the exact chain as likely rather than confirmed.
  • Quests: Tony's first quest ("Drive the potato thieves out") awarded a Medium Chest containing a Magic Broom, and other quest completions have given Normal Chests.
  • Boss drops: the Chain Bandit can drop chests, and one session watched a Normal Chest respawn at his arena roughly every two to three minutes. Other bosses drop chests too, though one kill produced only a Normal Chest — farming Clover Time's bosses is the steadiest in-game income.
  • World spawns: chests spawn directly on the map, so grab any you pass while exploring.
  • Milestones and rewards: index discovery milestones include Big Chests, launch-day and login rewards have included chests, and joining the game's community group unlocks a chest reward.
  • Codes: several active codes award all three chest types directly (see below).

Map-guarded puzzle chests

The best chests hide behind maps:

  1. Bosses can drop maps ranging from rare to legendary; stronger bosses give better maps.
  2. Use a map and it shows the coordinates of a hidden chest — travel there.
  3. The chest is surrounded by monsters. Defeat them to remove the barrier and start the chest's puzzle.
  4. Complete the puzzle within its time limit: collect key fragments around the chest, or draw a line to guide your broom and activate the orbs. If time runs out, the puzzle resets.
  5. Higher-rarity maps raise the chance of a higher-rarity chest (with stronger monsters to match), and there is a small chance a huge hidden boss appears after you clear the guards — defeating it raises the chest's rarity.

Two shortcuts exist: the blacksmith crafts an item that skips the puzzle and another that forces the chest's giant boss to appear. If you run Anti-Magic, you can skip the puzzle without crafting anything simply by attacking the chest.

Chest-opening achievements

Every chest you open counts toward four achievements, and each grants a permanent stat bonus:

AchievementRequirementStat bonus
Chest OpenerOpened 10 chests+5% Luck
Chest BreakerOpened 100 chests+10% Luck
Chest ConquerorOpened 1,000 chests+25% Luck
Mythic Chest HunterOpened 50 big chests+30% Luck, +30% Yuls

The first three count chests of any type, so regular questing and boss farming progress them passively — only Mythic Chest Hunter requires Big Chests specifically. These values come from a community wiki snapshot and can change after loot or economy updates.

Codes that award chests

Several working codes deliver chests directly, which is often the fastest way to stock a new account: 5KFAVS pays 10 normal chests and 5 medium chests, 10KFAVS adds 25 spins and 5 medium chests, 1KLIKES grants 25 spins, a mana crystal and a normal chest, and both BETARELEASE and CLOVERTIMEONTOP include a big chest alongside their spins (and, for BETARELEASE, a mana crystal). Redeem them as soon as you can — codes are time-limited, and the full maintained list with redemption steps lives on the Clover Time codes page.

Next step: turn chests into a grimoire

Chests matter because they feed the grimoire tower — the mana crystals and spins they provide are exactly what you spend on grimoire rolls. Once your inventory is stocked, follow how to get a grimoire to convert those chests into your next book.
