Clover Time Materials: Where to Get Them and What They're Used For
Look up any Clover Time material: where it comes from and which uses are verified, with acquisition-only items clearly flagged and no invented drop rates.
Clover Time items and materials follow a simple pattern: you gather, kill, buy or fish for a resource, and that resource feeds a specific system — smelting, cooking, fishing, crafting or grimoire spins. The table below is a lookup for exactly that: find a material, see where it comes from, and see which use is actually verified. Materials that no source yet shows being consumed are flagged as acquisition-only instead of being guessed at, and no drop chances are listed because none are documented.
Material quick-reference table
| Material | How you get it | Verified use |
|---|---|---|
| Wood (logs / firewood) | Chop trees with an axe and collect the fallen logs before they disappear; bigger trees drop more | Firewood quests; crafting and upgrades — a sword upgrade costs 55 wood |
| Potatoes | Harvest ripe plants with the rake (press E); Haj Bandits drop two each | Ingredient for mana crystals |
| Sulfur ore, stone ore, metal ore | Mine ore nodes with a pickaxe; Demon Skull bandits drop stone ore; chests can contain ore | Smelting in the furnace |
| Refined sulfur, metal bars, stone bricks, coal | Smelt the matching ore in the furnace | None documented yet — currently furnace outputs only |
| Raw meat | Hunt pigs; also appears in chest loot | Cooking |
| Bait (common, uncommon, epic, rare, legendary) | Buy from the village merchant (common bait listed at 6,600 Iuns) | Fishing |
| Fish | Fish any river or sea with a rod and bait | Golden Marlin yields Mana Crystal Fragments; other fish sell for Iuns |
| Mana Crystal Fragments | Catch the Golden Marlin; open chests; boss drops | Crafting mana crystals |
| Mana crystal | Craft at the table by the spawn crystal; also chests, map spawns, codes and index rewards | Spins for a grimoire at the grimoire tower |
| Hides | Kill boars | None documented yet |
| Wolf fangs and mana wolf fangs | Complete the Manawolf quest | None documented yet |
| Shine fragments | Late-boss drop list | None documented yet |
Note that Mana Crystal Fragments and mana crystals are different items: fragments are the raw ingredient, and the crystal is the finished currency you spend at the tower.
Gathered materials: three tool loops
Wood. Equip an axe, chop a tree, and grab the logs quickly — they vanish if you linger. Trees have HP bars, and the bigger the tree, the more HP it has and the more logs it drops. An early firewood quest asks for five logs, and wood keeps mattering later: one observed sword upgrade requires 55 wood.
Potatoes. The starting quest issues a rake/hoe. Walk to a garden plot and press E to harvest — but only fully grown plants yield potatoes. Immature plants can't be collected, and occasionally a plot spawns nothing at all, so treat empty harvests as normal. The very first gathering quest asks for four potatoes.
Ore. A pickaxe (an iron pickaxe is shown in guides) harvests ore nodes, and the mechanic mirrors tree chopping: keep hitting or press E to wear the rock's HP down. An early mining quest asks for five ores. Sulfur, stone and metal ore nodes are the targets.
A broad tip that holds across all three loops: start collecting early and grab resources you pass while exploring, instead of making a dedicated trip back later.
Drops from enemies, quests and bosses
Each area's NPCs drop different items, and the documented map is explicitly incomplete — it only covers areas the source player had visited:
- Haj village (Haga in some guides): the Haj Bandits in front of the church each drop two potatoes, making this the known farming spot when you need potatoes for crystal crafting.
- Demon Skull area: bandits there drop stone ore.
- Pigs: hunted for raw meat.
- Boars: drop hides. No source shows hides being used for anything yet, so they're acquisition-only for now.
- Manawolf quest: open the menu → profile → quest/NPC → Manawolf quest → go to the marked location → accept → defeat the wolves. This route yields wolf fangs and mana wolf fangs, neither of which has a documented use yet.
- Bosses: the Chain Bandit, the game's first boss, can drop a scythe, the Chain Hand, chests, his outfit and fragments. A later boss's observed drop list adds an iron scythe, iron shackles, a normal chest, the Salic cloak, the Salic outfit and shine fragments — shine fragments being another material with no verified use.
Chests: the recurring bonus channel
Chests are worth opening whenever you find them. Different chest types contain money, fragments, spins and other items, and larger chests have better reward pools. Early-game chests have produced stone ore, stamina potions, raw meat and potatoes. Bosses can also drop maps — the stronger the boss, the better the map's rarity — and using a map leads to a chest surrounded by monsters. Defeat them to drop the barrier and start a puzzle: collecting key fragments, correctly drawing a line, or using the broom to activate orbs before a time limit resets everything.
Processed materials: what the furnace makes
The furnace stands beside the church. Feed it sulfur ore, stone ore or metal ore, choose your fuel, and receive the final product: refined sulfur, metal bars, stone bricks or coal. What none of the current guides show is anything consuming those products — they're recorded as craft outputs only. Since Clover Time is still in active development, it's worth keeping a stack rather than dumping them, but don't expect a verified recipe yet.
Bait, fish and the mana crystal chain
This is the most important use chain in the game, because mana crystals are what you spend for grimoire spins:
- Get a fishing rod and bait — one documented route uses uncommon bait; common bait is sold by the merchant.
- Fish at the nearest river or sea. Luck and fishing potions from the alchemist make fishing easier.
- Catch the Golden Marlin — this specific fish is the source of Mana Crystal Fragments. Other fish can be sold to the fish-seller NPC for Iuns, a solid early money source.
- Return to the crafting table, which sits to the right of the spawn crystal in Haj village, and select Materials.
- Craft mana crystals. One guide gives the fixed cost as 5 potatoes + 10 Mana Crystal Fragments per crystal; another shows a player crafting repeatedly until a crystal came out, so keep a spare stock of both ingredients rather than exactly one craft's worth.
- Spend the crystal at the grimoire tower to spin — the Tor Archivist NPC there explains how the system works, and an observed spin consumes one mana crystal.
Beyond crafting, mana crystals also come from chests, map spawns, current codes, and index rewards you can claim from your inventory. For the full crystal economy, see the Clover Time mana crystals guide.
What each material is actually for
The crafting bench beside the spawn crystal is where most materials get spent. Its tabs cover tools (fishing rod, stone sword — the sword needs a mined component), weapons (swords, shotguns, a rifle, glow lights), armor including a craftable iron helmet, and consumables such as stamina, luck and fishing bait potions. A materials tab handles ingredient crafting like the mana crystal recipe above, and it also lists rare, legendary and mythical materials not yet itemized in any guide. Meanwhile, ore goes into the furnace, raw meat goes toward cooking, and bait goes into fishing.
Four documented materials currently have no verified consumer: hides, wolf fangs, mana wolf fangs and shine fragments. Rather than inventing recipes, this page flags them as acquisition-only — you know exactly where each one comes from, and the uses can be filled in once crafting updates actually document them. One nice bridge detail: the crafting NPC also recycles quest resources, so collector batons and quest-collected potatoes can be crafted into other things instead of sitting dead in your inventory.
Once you know which materials a recipe demands, the Clover Time crafting guide walks through how the bench and furnace workflows operate.
