Clover Time Broom Guide: How to Get the Magic Broom and Fly
Get Clover Time's Magic Broom from the opening Hage Village quest, summon it with H, click to mount, boost with Shift, and manage mana drain on long trips.
The Magic Broom is Clover Time's early ticket to fast travel: it carries you across the whole map instead of making you follow roads on foot. You get it within your first few minutes of play, summon it by pressing H, click to mount it, steer with the normal movement keys, and hold Shift for a burst of speed. The catch is mana — flight burns it quickly, and when the bar empties, you drop out of the sky.
This guide covers how to obtain the broom, every control verified so far, what flight costs you, and the trips where flying pays off most.
How to get the Magic Broom
The broom comes from the game's opening quest flow at Hage Village:
- Accept Tony's first quest. He asks you to drive the potato thieves — a group of bandits — out of the potato farm.
- Defeat the bandits. They go down quickly, even at level 1.
- Open the medium chest the quest awards. In multiple recorded first-session playthroughs, that chest contained the Magic Broom — the rare broom whose purpose is flight.
That chest is not the only way it arrives, so don't treat it as a guaranteed drop. A complete beginner walkthrough notes that if the chest doesn't hand you the broom, simply continuing the early missions earns it for you. And one early tester instead got a "Learning to use the broom" tutorial: a minigame where the broom tilts on screen and you keep clicking the side of the screen opposite the tilt until a bar empties, which unlocks the broom. Clover Time was still in active, daily-updated development when this was filmed, so expect the presentation to vary a little from player to player.
Broom flight controls
The game's control table lists Summon Broom on H, and footage confirms the sequence in practice:
| Action | Input | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Summon the broom | H (PC) | The HUD shows an "H Spell Broom" prompt when it's ready. Console footage shows up on the D-pad doing the same job. |
| Mount and take off | Click | Summoning isn't enough — after the broom appears, click it to mount and lift off. |
| Steer | W, A, S, D | The same movement keys as on foot. |
| Speed boost | Shift (press or hold) | Flight is already fast; boosting makes it faster — and burns fuel faster (see below). |
The console D-pad mapping comes from one creator's footage, so PC's H is the only bind documented in the game's own control table. If a key ever stops working after an update, the Summon Broom row in the control table is the first place to look.
Mana: the limit on every flight
Broom flight is resource-limited, and this is the one mechanic that changes how you use it:
- Flying drains mana fast. Testers describe the bar dropping "just like water" — it's not a small cost.
- Boosting drains it even faster. Treat Shift as a sprint button for emergencies and long straightaways, not something you hold the whole trip.
- When the bar empties, you fall. There's no graceful glide at zero; one tester ran dry mid-air and faceplanted straight into the ground.
- Mana stat points extend your airtime. Putting level-up points into mana is the observed way to fly longer. Note that you can use the broom even without a grimoire — the drain is on your mana pool either way. On an anti-magic character the bar reads anti-magic instead of magic, but it drains the same way.
At low level, keep expectations modest: one tester dumped every available point into mana and still ran out mid-trip, concluding that a fresh character may still need to walk some routes. One guide also recommends keeping stamina potions from the potion shop, saying boosting burns stamina along with magic — the stamina half is that guide's advice rather than a confirmed rule, but potions are a cheap hedge for long flights.
Where flying pays off
The broom's job is map traversal. A beginner guide lists it as a mobility milestone: once obtained, it makes travel between quests, NPCs, and farming spots much quicker, and a game overview puts it simply — outside combat, Magic Broom flight opens up the map.
The destination shown most often in footage is the grimoire tower. Creators use it as the textbook example: before you own a broom you follow the walking path; once you have one, you just fly straight to the tower and arrive. If you're heading there for your first grimoire rolls, the grimoire tower location guide has the directions, and the locations overview helps you pick other destinations worth flying to.
Common broom problems
- Pressed H and nothing happened? Summoning only spawns the broom — you still need to click it to mount and take off.
- Kept falling out of the sky? Your mana ran out. Land before the bar empties, or put more stat points into mana before the next long trip.
- Chest didn't contain the broom? Keep working through the early missions; the quest flow awards it even when the chest doesn't.
- Stuck on the "Learning to use the broom" minigame? Keep clicking the side of the screen opposite the tilt — tilt right, click left — and keep clicking until the bar fully empties to unlock the broom.
Next stop: the grimoire tower
With flight sorted, your first broom trip should be the one every early player makes: to the grimoire tower for your first grimoire. Head to the grimoire tower location guide for the route, or start from the beginning with the Clover Time beginner guide.
